Guys, I just picked up a 97 Storm 800. I need to change the rope for the pull start, and do a service. I have no idea where to start. I see where the rope went, but I'm afraid to pull it apart. Is it just nylon rope? And, just change the oil and plugs for service?

shouldnt be too hard if you are handy. probably just like a chainsay only bigger...no oil change=two stroke

Yes, change the gear oil and grease the suspension...Also look for any cracks on the welds on the suspension parts I had this problem with my 98 XC700

check the sliders too, plastic pieces between rails and track. tend to wear thin near the upcurve in front. also won't hurt to loosen the track ,block up the rear n check the idler wheels for spin . much better to find bad stuff in your garage than out on the trail :thumbsup

anything that old, pull the whole skidframe and put new bearings in everything including the front drive axle. trust me....
