Hello guys and gals:) I found this board through the r1-forum. nice boards:)

I live in rockland county NY and i want to get a permit for a bike. This may sound like a noob question, but how many questions and what kind of questions do i get on this test? right now i'm in jersey crashing at my parents place for a while so i have to make the trip to state ny to take the permit test so i dont want to fail and make another trip. Do i go pick up a book from dmv for bikes and study from it and will that give me enuff info to pass the permit test?

Also, if any one knows a good instruction school near pearl river that provides tests and courses to get my license through the school instead of dmv that would be great too:)

The permit test is incredibly easy. I never even had the book, you don't need it. For the test take the MSF course. Its available all over the place. And its easier to pass than the dmv test and you learn valuable shit. :smooth :beer

Mine was the same thing as the car permit test. If you passed that you'll pass the motorcycle one. Mine was focused mostly around drunk driving. :lol

I am going to go with Upstate on this one... I may even take it one step further and say to go directly to the MSF course... the permit is easy... but if you have any experience on a bike already then might as well get it out of the way now...and just get your license...

Yes,get the book from DMV and study it.But more importantly is what do you do next? TAKE THE MSF BEGINNER COURSE!!!! I have helped many new riders learn to ride with my bikes but ONLY if they have prepaid the MSF course.Unfortunately I live in NJ now with a NJ license.I don't know if NY is like NJ.In NJ if you take the MSF and pass their test at the end of the weekend (it's a 3 day course) you get your license.
I drove for 26 years and finally took the experienced rider MSF course.It saved my life twice in the first year.It also gives you a 10% discount on your insurance and as a new rider yo'll need it.Do it right the first time.It will be the best lfe insurance you can buy.
