I've got a mint 1989 Yamaha XT 600 with 1600 ( yes you read it right) original miles on it. Suddenly it takes massive leg power to kick it over. I own the bike a year now and I've never had this problem. The kickstarter never had so much resistance to it, it was usually kind of easy to kick over. The damn bike feels like my XR now................maybe WORSE!. Anyone know what this could be?.
Thanks in advance
Do they have a manual decompression lever? Is it working correctly?

No, there is no manual decompression lever. Do you think it could somehow mean that the valves need adjustment?.

this is a weird problem. I would pull the plugs and see if the starter has any resistance. If not than it is possibly a compression issue. I would definatly pull the plugs and have a looksee though.

I fixed it. The automatic decompression *cable* was stuck and there was no play in it. I think that this happened about a week ago when I went to adjust among all things.............THE DAMN HORN!............you see, Yamaha felt it necessary to place the horn like 1/1,0000,000th of an inch directly in front of the decompression mechanism I must have disturbed it somehow. I didn't realize it last week when I was tinkering with the horn. Just for the heck of it I took a look at it to day and sure enough it was stuck in the wrong position. I sprayed some Liquid Wrench in there liberallyl and VOILA...........kickstarting back to normal . So now, instead of placing 4,0000 lbs of pressure to the kickstarter to get the bike lit, I only have to apply *2000*. Lucky me :haha.
Thanks for the help/concern anyway guys,
Pete
knew it had something to do with the decompression :)
