Hey guys, it was nice meeting you. I had fun riding with you guys. I'm a relatively novice rider so i've never ridden with more or two people. Feel free to tell me what i did wrong, i'm know i kept going in other peoples lanes by accident. Anyway sorry i couldnt ride with you for much longer and sorry you scuffed your bike up jo, it looked like it was ok tho. I'm gone for the weekend but i'll see you guys at americade. Thanks

Bike looks fine also.

The ride was great. It was great to meet local riders face-to-face. We all were pretty bunched up. Should probably state the rules next time just in case some do not know how to ride. Still, all was good.

Thanks to nos(i think it was), AlbanyDuck, and Zac for keeping an eye out!

Yeah - I think the question of the evening for us "newbie" group riders was ... "is that legal?" ;)

I enjoyed meeting all of you tonight! I think that was probably the highest ratio of "newbie" riders to experienced riders we have ever had on any rides. All things considered, you guys did alright keeping it together. I have to apologize for the excruciatingly slow ride through Albany (hitting road blocks and traffic - in an attempt to avoid bumper to bumper traffic on i90). The slow pace probably helped considering many people are still learning how to ride or ride in a group.

Strictly speaking, 'holding up traffic' is definitely not legal. However, sometimes that's what you have to do to keep the group together and look after the less experienced riders. And if you are not obnoxious about it, people are generally pretty understanding.

For the newer riders, the general rules for riding in a group is that you ride staggered while in traffic or less challenging roads. You stay in your 'lane position' and avoid crossing over into someone else's without signalling first (using either hand signals or turn signals). When the pace picks up through the twisties, you switch over to single file formation and you don't pass someone else unless they wave you by. And if you see someone up your ass because you are not ready to keep up with the pace, then you are expected to render the courtesy of waving them by. We will never leave you behind and will always stop and make sure the group is all there before turning off onto another road. You don't want to hold up someone else but you should never feel pressured to ride beyond your abilities. There's a whole lot more to group riding but a lot of it is simply common courtesy and safety. For example, show up to rides with a full tank of gas and already inspected your bike for loose/worn parts and properly inflated tires. When you see someone ahead signalling, repeat it so people behind you also see it.

Keeping those in mind will make the ride that much more organized and enjoyable for everyone involved. With that said, let's all go out and have fun out there!

Great write up Duck! One more tidbit and I only add it because I did it a few times and I have seen others do it. If you use your directional turn it off when done. This is especially important in group riding due to the staements made by AD, above.

Thank all!

It was nothing. It just tipped over. Could've happened to anyone.

Hell if you leave the right hand turn signal on you dont have to remember to turn it on for the next right hand turn (becuase you know that 50% of turns are right handed turns :) )
