I'm heading up to a buddy's cabin in Stony Creek next weekend and was hoping to find some place where I might ride my YZ 250F. As lame as it may sound, I'm really looking for kind of an open space where I can practice flat turns.
Anyone know of anything in the area? Any info is much appreciated and if there are any guys interested in riding some time next weekend up there, let me know as I'm always looking for other riders/racers, although I'm pathetically slow.
Thanks,
Steve

Not really sure of any trails over that way. I've been riding the YZ 250 on the powerlines here at exit 25 on I-87(Chestertown) & haven't gotten caught yet:D. If you find anything out give me a holla, I might be down wit ridin' witchya:thumbsup
In Stony creek I only know of maybe 2 trails possibly that are legal to ride on? Other than that its all private property and snowmobile trails. Sucks, cause if they'd let ya ride the other trails you could go all the way up into Speculator and crap! I'll see if I can get any more details about the trails for ya!:thumbsup

Thanks guys. I'll probably be up there this Saturday and Sunday. I once spotted what looked like some sandy trails off the road (not sure of the name or Route #) maybe a mile or so south of Stony Creek (on the road that cuts straight through the town). Only place I can even think of to pull off, unload the bike, and give it a shot.
I've also seen a street sign up on State Road in Stony Creek that reads something like: ATV use legal April - October. Granted a dirtbike is not an ATV, but I've ridden in the streets up there in the mountains on my old YZ 125 and never had a problem. I went so far as to write to the Stony Creek town council supervisor via email to try and get him to define "ATV" exactly, but no joy as he never wrote back.
Anyway, that's it. I'll check this post during the week and if anyone's interested in riding in the area, I'll leave my cell phone #.
Thanks,
Steve
That dirt trail is a horse trail that 1000 Acres Ranch resort uses that is on your way out of Stony Creek... As for the other one that one goes right by my house, it's a atv trail but like you said I dont think theyd give you a hard time riding on it... Hardly anybody on it to begin with? You can park your vehicle at the bar or if you'd like, I'd even let ya use my yard to park your stuff and unload. If I can be of any help just let me know?:thumbsup

Cool. Again, I should be up there as soon as late Friday, but as of right now, the weather forecast for the entire week and weekend completely sucks (t-storms).
I've passed 1000 Acre Ranch about a million times, but I also think I've seen a trail next to some old train tracks off the road that leads to . . . Hadley? Don't quote me on that, though. Basically, if I walked out of Emrick's store and made a right and kept going, that's the road to which I'm referring. Trail looked sandy, and that's all I can really say as it was over a year ago I spotted it.
Anyway, I'll write again later in the week to confirm.
Thanks again for the posts. Looking forward to riding.
That sandy spot is going towards Hadley... It's where the old town landfill used to be. There is a trail there, but I know it goes onto private property and i'm not sure if you need permission or not? there is also like a sand pit there as well, looks like that could be some fun for a bit!!!
I just hate the fact that people aren't allowed to use the snowmobile trails, cause there are some serious trails in Stony creek for that! I know most people don't agree with me, but i think it's GAY you can't use them!!!

Weather's supposed to be nice tomorrow, although I'm not sure how much it rained up there yesterday (swamped in NYC) and it's supposed to rain again tonight. I'll still give it a shot on Saturday, though, so if anyone's interested in doing some off-road riding, give me a ring.

Man I never had such an awesome time bro, the lawnmower was running sweet and it just felt like i was part of that machine as I went into the corners. Grass flying everywhere as I had that bad boy wide open!
Oh wait, you weren't talking to me Matt, were you? :flipoff :p
