ill be picking up a ATV soon and i was wondering if you have to ride it for so long b4 u can get on it and all of that?

for example my friend just bought a 2006 kawasaki 660 brute force. and he had to ride it so many miles, then take it back to the shop for matenience and then could get onto it more. his came with a 2 year free matenience pack.

so i was wondering if thats like all atvs? cause ive never had a brand new one b4.

and is there anything else you do to a sport atv on a baise's? im not a new rider but new on taking care of one on my own now so just looking for some pointers.

thanks guys,

Mike

With A New Machine I Always Rode It Maybe 5 Or 6 Hours Easy, Changed The Oil, Then Another 5 Or 6 Hours A Lil Harder, Change The Oil, And Then Pound It Like A Prostitute. When The Engine Breaks In There Are A Lot Of Fine Metal Particals That You Can Actually See In The Engine Oil. That's Why It's Good To Change The Oil A Lot In The First Part Of It's Life, You Don't Want All That Metal Cruising Through Your Oil. Same With A Car Or Motorcycle. Motorcycles I Always Do At 500, Then 1500, Then 3000 And Every 3000 After. The Owners Manual Will Tell You What To Do, Basically Change The Oil And Check Cable Adjustment And Nuts And Bolts, The Dealer Will Charge You 100-150 For The First Service, If You Buy An Extended Warranty You Should Let Them Do The Service On It So They Don't Dick You On Any Warranty Work In The Future. I Don't Know What Kind Of Atv You're Buying But Most Don't Require A Lot Of Repairs Till You Crash Them

well if its brand new ur suppose to take it easy like yer first tank full of gas and some shops recomend taking it back so they can adjust the valves and check everything... but if if you just take it easy fer the first couple of rides you should be ok , just break it in.

ok, yea thats what i figured about the taking it easy at 1st. im would take it to a shop for anything cause honeslty im not good at mechanic stuff. never had the chance growing up to do that or to have anyone show/help me, and what tools i did have were destroyed in the fire, so id wrather bring it to a shop.

Mklmtrskl- im gonna pick up the new 07 raptor 700r SE. i just found put phibbs have it in stock (thanks zak) i was gonna wait till i sell the FD, but i might not be able to wait that long lol

break it in how your going to ride it.... which means beat on it from the start! all the internals need to wear in to the extremes your going to put them through, plus thats what waranty's are for.

from personall experience; every motorcycle, dirtbike ,atv, or sno- moblie that i have owned i have beat on it right off the bat and i have never blown a motor. considering the way i ride, thats pretty impressive !!

Yeah, I've heard that from many people also, break it in like your gonna ride it. If it's gonna break it will break in the first 20 minutes of getting beat. I do still agree that you should change the oil more frequently in the beginning because you will get the metal "shavings" in your oil which will cause excess wear to cylinders and internal bearings.

I rode my R1 calm for 200 miles - changed the oil and then took it redline to redline through 4 gears. Almost 40k on the clock and it's not burning oil and runs strong :)

look up the motoman break in method...you don't need to beat the crap out of it but if you are to soft on it you won't seat the rings properly.......a cetain amount of pressure is required to force the rings out against the cylinder walls evenly. and chang your oil!!!! i would say at 100 miles.....250 miles....500 miles 1500 miles and then 3000 and continue on a normal 3k change from there dependent on the type of riding. why so many oil changes? because as your motor is breaking in it is tossing tiny shavings of metal around and even the smallest particle can do damage.
